Friday Flurries 9/20/24

Don’t forget to come have some fun, do a good deed, and join the growing Hickory community.  Our Kick Off Fall Work Day is Sunday, 9/22 starting work at 1 on cutting trails and painting, free food at 5 and bonfire at 6.

Get the one time low price on season passes on-site this Sunday only.   Monday prices go upon-line. on our website skihickory.com.

It’s been an eventful week.

The team has been in conversation with Warren County Economic Development to identify potential infrastructure and program development and delivery opportunities. We intend to apply for the newly announced funding available through the office of Family and Youth Services.   We’ll be proposing a program for youth disc golf and possibly youth snowshoeing, depending on our preliminary conversations with FYS on Monday.  We have a tight deadline as the application is due on October 1 We have been encouraged with conversations so far.

The Adirondack Park Agency received our application for tent camping and RV overnight parking and within a day contacted us for an on-site visit for next week.   This is a good sign that we are on the fast track.

The Hickory Hut has its first booking through Airbnb, and several inquiries, an encouraging start to this new amenity.

We have had good participation on the disc golf course with individuals and league play and one tournament so far. The course has been mowed and trimmed consistently throughout the summer and we monitor for blowdowns and conditions a couple of times a week.

We have started to receive requests for ski lessons so anyone interested in instructing, email us so we can begin building our ski instructor list.

Painting to mitigate rust on lift towers has begun and we are reviewing mechanical features for any needed service.   We have a new crew so anyone with time on their hands who has worked on the lifts…. Loading sticks, greasing cable, safety switch checking, cable tension setting, etc. a couple of hours of your wisdom would really help.  Our work schedule can be managed to fit with whatever time you have available.   We are also searching for a diesel mechanic to fix a hydraulic leak and general maintenance on one groomer and a wiring issue on the other.

See you Sunday!
