REMINDER: FALL KICKOFF: HICKORY IS MY MOUNTAIN WORK DAY
SEPTEMBER 22, 1:00– 6:00
Come join the Hickory family, get some fresh air and exercise with an afternoon on the mountain. We will be cutting on the slopes, painting tables and benches, checking boundary and safety signs. This year we are making this a social event so you can meet and enjoy the company of Hickory fans who have a few hours to contribute to a better skiing experience.
· 1:00 Pick up tools and head up
· 4-5:00 Free food/beverages at the lodge
· 6:00 Bonfire
· Discounted adult season passes for sale –see prices below
We have been asked why we are offering free skiing to 17 and under and such low season pass prices. The answer is simple, we want you to be able to afford to take your family skiing, avoid the crowds and experience a natural skiing environment. Yes, buying a season pass at Hickory! is a risk: sketchy weather, vintage lifts, open 3-4 days a week. Is it worth it? Depends on the number of skiing days available during the season that fit with your schedule, the number of other area passes you intend to purchase, and why you ski. Hickory skiers come for the terrain, the jolt you get riding the Pomas, the silence on the mountain, learning to ski natural snow conditions, and the social connections.
While re-growing our skiing community will not be easy, we are hoping that by offering free 17 and under skiing, parents and grandparents will want to ski with them and purchase passes. IndyPass has been monitoring its beta test sites which have used this approach and data shows a triple growth in adult season pass sales. Weare hoping for similar results.
We still need to raise, through season pass sales, sufficient funds to cover our liability insurance and operating expenses. It’s a risk for us to put the viability of Hickory!’s ski season in your hands. We are not burdened with corporate or management salaries, only the close to minimum wages we pay our full time and temporary employees to maintain services and operate lifts, so rest assured that every penny is invested in sustaining your mountain.
It is our intent to continue providing activities that help sustain Hickory! in the long term. To that end, we have submitted application to the Adirondack Park Agency for a permit to offer tent camping and RV parking on our property. The Hickory Hut is now active on Air BnB and available for booking.
While we have had several inquiries for gatherings at Hickory!, our Calander is wide open for use by groups, individuals, businesses to hold celebrations, weddings, or parties. We encourage you to consider joint sponsorship with the Hickory Legacy Foundation for fund raising events for your favorite charitable organizations.
Our website now offers opportunities for advertising for businesses that provide a place to stay, things to eat, equipment to rent or apres’ ski entertainment. Go to skihickory.com/pages/website-advertising for pricing and additional information.
